It doesn't help that many GP receptionists are telling patients that can't get a GP appointment to 'go to A&E then' just to get rid of them.
Exactly what the system doesn't need!

Surely anyone who hates the Toires should despise New Labour by default? And it was Blair's government which closed down my local A&E causing numerous deaths and untold chaos. Yes they managed to get waiting numbers down but patients were treated as a statistics and fuck all else. Hospitals became nothing more than conveyor belts.

It always amuses me whenTory haters on here like winstone can never see past the current government, as if the NHS was a brilliantly efficient and well oiled machine during the Blair and Brown years.

A&E waiting time targets are completely pointless. They were introduced as an attempt to win cheap political 'brownie' points with the public.
Whilst speedy attention is clearly desirable, any A&E HCP will tell you that if there are any targets, they should reflect quality of care, not speed. This is after all what is most important.

C&P
Health chiefs have scrapped A&E waiting time targets as NHS bosses claim government cuts make them impossible to meet. Tory cuts have been blamed for an inability to see 95 per cent of patients within four hours - a target not met since 2015. The target is being postponed until April next year, with the NHS Confederation calling on the government to rethink.

I dislocated my knee last night. Fuck me, that was painful.
The NHS did a fine job, got seen and had x rays promptly and was given a bed in no time.
I don't think you really appreciate the NHS until you've seen how other countries work. I spend a lot of my time in the States and I would have hate to be sat there wondering how much it was all going to cost me like what happens over there.
It's not perfect, by any means, but it does a good enough job for me. The one thing I did notice is that as a white Englishman I was in the minority. There lies the huge problem as far as I'm concerned.
I will now go private for physio though!

The NHS isn't designed to make money, it is designed to lose money efficiently. Any management model that doesn't recognise this will fail.
I could go on for hours about that various ways in which the 'efficiently' part of that first option isn't being met but funnily enough those levels are never addressed. Frontline staff get the blame as ever. I still have many friends working in the NHS and fair play to them, I couldn't do it now. Except I was actually prepared to do so last year but the salary they offered me given my experience was laughable, especially for living in London, as it is all dictated by national policies that actively discourage people from going back into the service, right at the time that they are most desperate for staff.
It makes no sense, and I don't blame anyone for getting out and deciding to look after themselves for once. Because it's damb sure that no one else is going to do so. There are staff out there now who are not only incredibly stressed because they are unable to do the job to the standards they would like to but actually worried about their careers or even their liberty as the consequences of board level cuts always come back on those trying to make the best of a bad situation. It's terrifying - as a patient, is that the kind of stress you would want someone looking after you to be under?

The NHS needs a massive injection of cash if it is to maintain its place as the 5th largest employer in the world. And the grand piano in the foyer at Queens needs replacing.

My Uncle died on the 8th January and still they have not released his body for burial, all pending ongoing investigations, have not even done the autopsy yet from what i know? Seems a bit rough, particularly on my cousins, not being able to lay there dad to rest.
Also what happens to his body? Do they freeze them when this happens as surely the bacteria in his body will start breaking it down.
Find all this all pretty fucked up TBH.

The NHS can have as much funding as it wants - so long as those so demanding are prepared (them, not others) to cough up the money.
Using the Foreign Aid budget to cover the cost of non-residents using it would be a start - it's all taxpayer's money, after all.
That's two birds, one stone, as nobody then will be able to place ANY blame on the strain those not eligible to use it place on it, and less money going to fund India's space race & Pakistan's atom bomb.
PLUS, it saves on the cost of a ring fence - the one can enclose both budgets.
